Before the advent of “The Governor and Company of Adventurers of England, trading into Hudson’s Bay” – the Hudson’s Bay Company or HBC – there was another royally sponsored affair known as the “Company of Royal Adventurers Trading to Africa” – better known as the Royal Africa Company or RAC. The key man in both ventures was one Prince Rupert of the Rhine, cousin to the Stuart King Charles II.
